During the IMEX Gala Dinner in Frankfurt, we were really proud to have received the prestigious IMEX-GMIC Green Meeting Award 2014 for our work with Global Initiatives on the 2013 Responsible Business Forum.
Held in Singapore at leading sustainable event venue Marina Bay Sands, the Responsible Business Forum brought together over 430 industry leaders, NGOs and policy-makers from around Southeast Asia to activate commitments and discuss policy recommendations to increase sustainability across various sectors.
The forum was a showcase sustainability event not only thanks to its high-level content and participants, but also thanks to the use of a number of innovative sustainable event practices.
The collaboration between MCI and two of our clients Global Initiatives and Marina Bay Sands helped to deliver a number of firsts for the regional events industry, including a 100% vegetarian and locally-sourced menu, one of the highest waste diversion rates ever disclosed for an event of this scale, the use of meeting room sensors to detect movement and conserve energy and the debut of the Singaporean Sustainable MICE Guidelines.
For me this was an important recognition for both the Sands and GI. It still is more of a challenge to do sustainable events in Asia – and our collaboration showed that its possible to do it right, without costing the “earth” as many clients think.
We were very proud of our clients the Macau Venetian who received the IMEX-GMIC Green supplier award. Its been a great experience working with them and the Marina Bay Sands to develop and implement their ISO20121 management system (but more on that later).
Last night’s award is the fifth IMEX-GMIC Green Award that we have helped our clients to win. Hopefully it wont be the last and we look forward to helping even more clients deliver award-winning sustainability projects in future.
